Patient brief
Name: Parth Marmana
DOB: 05/05/1990 = 32 years old
BACKGROUND
You went to see the doctor last week for a check up. You were told over the phone that you were ‘pre-diabetic’ and asked to come in for this appointment to discuss this.
You have never heard of ‘pre-diabetes’ but your cousin has Type 1 diabetes, and takes insulin injections. She wears something on her arm that measures her blood sugar levels.
LIFESTYLE
• DIET: You eat healthily – if asked for more detail: ready meals, and takeaway like burgers, but you always get them with salad.
• EXERCISE: You exercise regularly – if asked for more detail: you go for a stroll in the park with your friends twice a week for 10-20 minutes.
• WEIGHT: You have always been a bit chubby. Your weight doesn’t really bother you, although you do feel like being big makes you less attractive, so you have been thinking about trying to lose weight.
You have tried to lose weight in the past by going on a 500 calorie diet, but you could barely manage one day. You don’t think you can lose weight because you have already tried by doing this and it didn’t work.
• READINESS TO CHANGE: You are willing to make some changes, but you have a busy lifestyle as you have a part time job as a cleaner and another part time job as a call centre worker. These changes will have to not take too much time or be too costly.
