You believe medication should be able to sort it out.

• SMOKING:

–       You smoke 25 cigarettes a day.

–       You have been smoking since you were 16 and have never tried to stop.

–       You believe the cigarettes are important for calming your nerves and have never been able to find anything that hits the spot the same way.

–       You smoke whenever you feel stressed out or upset. Your job is getting very stressful right now because you have heard about upcoming redundancies in June.

–       When you don’t smoke, you get a headache, feel tired, angry and dizzy.

READINESS TO CHANGE: If the misconceptions are addressed, and the option to cut down gradually rather than quit all at once is mentioned and nicotine replacement therapy, you would be willing to reduce your smoking.
