BACKGROUND
You went to see the doctor because you had a gnawing pain in your stomach, especially at night and after eating. After some investigations, you were told you have peptic ulcer disease but you were not sure about starting the medication so this appointment has been booked to discuss it further.
You have heard of stomach ulcers before because your grandad had one but you are not sure how they come about.
You have never heard of omeprazole.
You are worried about taking tablets because you are worried about getting addicted.
LIFESTYLE
• DIET: You have improved your diet since your symptoms started and eat very healthily now
• EXERCISE: You have always kept healthy and go jogging every morning.
• READINESS TO CHANGE: If misconception of addiction is addressed and side effects explained, you are ready to take the tablets. You are happy to stop taking ibuprofen if an appointment is offered to discuss headaches. You are happy to cut down on alcohol if mentioned.
OTHER HISTORY
You get regular headaches – not seen the doctor about it.
You take ibuprofen almost every day – whenever you get a headache, as it is the only thing that helps.
You drink a few beers a week – about 10 a week.
No relevant family history.
No allergies.
