You will need a student pharmacist and an actor for this OSCE station.
Blood Pressure
You are a pharmacist working in a GP practice. The patient is a 50-year-old patient who has come in for a blood pressure review. You have been asked to take a manual blood pressure reading from this patient. You do not need to take a medical history.
To do:
Conduct an accurate blood pressure reading for this patient using the appropriate equipment.
Discuss the results with the patient.
You have 10 minutes.
You have access to the BNF.
You are Marilyn Montez (Mair-uh-lin, Mon-tez)
You have come in for a blood pressure review. You are not required to answer any of the patient questions other than the information provided.

“I have not had a manual blood pressure measurement before.”
“My average reading at home is 130/87.”
“Since you asked, could you do the reading on my left arm please”
ONLY IF ASKED:
Relative contraindications:
“I have no swelling.”
“I have no nerve problems.”
“I don’t have any equipment to take blood or give fluids, no lines of any kind.”
Absolute contraindications:
“No kidney problems.”
“No previous operations.”
“No previous breast surgery.”
Any criteria marked in red must be met to pass this station.
Achieving at least 50% OR missing specific required marks.
